What is Two-factor authentication(2FA)?
Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security that protects your account apart from the email and password you provide at the point of logging into your account. Remote hackers can compromise even the longest combination of passwords in devise ways, your account and information may not be as safe as you'll like to think. Two-factor authentication has proven to be one of the simplest,inexpensive(free) and most effective method of improving account security.
The email and password is regarded as the first layer security while the Two-factor authentication as the name implies is the second. The unique idea behind the second layer is that it is far more difficult to compromise both layers than one individually.
The Available Two-factor authentication on NaijaCrypto.
There are mainly 2 available Two-factor authentication for every user on NaijaCrypto. You have the option of selecting either of them but not both at the same time. They are;
- Google Two-factor authentication (2FA)
- Email Two-factor authentication
How to enable Google Two-factor authentication (2FA).
After email verification, Select 2FA verification then click on "Enable" in Smart Phone App.
- Install Google Authenticator App from App store or Google playstore. Then go back to your NaijaCrypto account
- Scan the QR code provided or copy the Google 2FA Secret code ( it is very important for you to store this secret code in a safe place)
- 3. Go to the Google authenticator app, click on the plus sign(+)select "manual entry"
- 4. Fill the form and paste the copied secret code. Then copy the 6 digit code provide,go back to your account and paste in the box.
- 5.Click on submit. Note that the code is only available for 30 secs after that another code will be provided.
How to enable Email Two-factor authentication
After email verification, Select 2FA verification then click on "Enable" in Email 2FA. That is all, your Email 2FA has been set. You will be receiving code in your email address at the point of logging in.
Why is 2FA important?
The fact that people often use the same pair of email address and password in various websites,accounts and services has often lead to quite a number of data breaches and identity theft. 2FA will help decrease the danger of exposure even if your email or password has been compromised.
For security reasons, NaijaCrypto highly recommend enabling two-factor authentication (2FA).
IMPORTANT INFO:
Remember to save your Google Authenticator secret code, you may or may not be able to recover the secret code after processing the 2FA, you will also be needing the code to reset your 2FA incase of lost or change of phone.
